In this portion of the New Testament Independent Missionary Baptist Website, we would like to look at Titus chapter 2. The entire chapter is practical in nature. It covers the man's role, the woman's role, and the Christian's role. Therefore, the chapter can benefit anyone who reads it. But, for our purposes here lets consider verses 3 through 5. "The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." These verses speak to women of all ages. The older, more mature women should behave in such a manner that they teach by actions and words how women younger than they should conduct themselves, love their husbands and children, maintain their homes, and reverence the Word of God. How many times have we heard, "When the children grow up and leave I'm going to get a job." This does not teach the younger women to be keepers at home. This very mind-set has led many women to believe that a woman is of no value while staying home and raising the children. She is only "enjoying life" or "being fulfilled" when on the workplace. In general, most women find obedience and limitations a "bad" thing that must be warred against from the time they are able to walk and talk. This is their nature. Left unchecked, a girl will grow up with these misguided beliefs and spend most of her life reaching for fulfillment that seems to always allude her. In the experience of the women at our Church who do not work outside the home, homeschooling our children (if still at home), taking care of our husbands, taking care of our homes, helping elderly parents, and maintaining a prayer and Bible study life is an all encompassing (sometimes overwhelming) responsibility. Most of us have worked outside the home in either public service or career jobs at some time in our lives. We all agree that being in our proper place, that is at home, is a much more fulfilling lifestyle. Truly, cooking a new dish that pleases the family, sewing an outfit or quilt for a friend, teaching our children their spiritual and academic lessons, gardening, decorating on a budget, etc. are all challenging and exciting ways to carry out Titus 2:3-5. Below, we have a list of links we have found helpful in the past. If you know a good link, don't hesitate to send it to us and we will review it. Most of our links are non-religious in nature but we wish to say that we don't necessarily support everything on these websites. These have been selected for their resourceful content. For more information on homeschooling and the head covering refer to our separate homeschooling and headcovering links on the home page. May God bless you as you strive to serve God in the role God has given you.
