Homeschool

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

The members of the New Testament Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Dover, Tennessee are dedicated to helping home schooling families educate their children at home.  We believe the Bible instructs us in the Old and New Testament to keep ourselves separated from the world and teach our children in the Lord.

Deuteronomy 6:7 tells us to teach the commandments to our children.  This is done through life, responsibility, routine Bible study and prayer in the home, Church attendance and homeschooling.  It is difficult to build a strong Biblical foundation in a child who is away from home 8 to 10 hours per day being taught a humanistic, liberal curriculum. According to the Word of God in Ephesians 6:4, Proverbs 1:8, Psalms 78:3-4, and Proverbs 6:20, it is the duty and mandate of the mother and father to instruct their children in the Biblical way to live their lives pleasing to God.

"It is the family, not the Church or Church school, that is primarily responsible for the Biblical and spiritual training of the children.  One of the key goals of the gospel is to re-establish God's will for the family in a correct relationship between fathers, (mothers) and children. Through the teaching of repentance and the Lordship of Christ, fathers (and mothers) will become dedicated to their children in an attitude of righteousness."
(adapted from a statement by www.familychristianacademy.com)

Everyone in our Church who has school-aged children, has dedicated themselves to homeschooling.  In our varied experiences, we've seen that parent-directed education gives each child:

the love of learning
the opportunity to enhance their natural abilities
an opportunity to develop deep ties to their parents and siblings
the opportunity to see the workings of a home and the roles of mother and father
a Biblically based education
the discipline they need to be responsible adults
and controls negative peer pressure and ungodly temptations so we can build a foundation strong enough for them to be able to withstand the "wiles of the Devil" when they are older

Do not be deceived! Neither our children, nor yours, can stay pure and close to the Lord if they spend 8 to 10 hours per day with friends and adults who aren't founded in Christianity.  The humanistic, liberal school system cannot teach Christian morals like Godly parents can.  Who should they be getting their self-esteem from?  Who should they be influenced by daily?  Certainly not other people who may not have the same beliefs and love of God that you, as the parent, have!  In general, the public school system is pushing kids through the grades to keep the federal monies pouring in but without the subsequent education.  Children who learn slowly, have a learning disability (difference), or who are very bright may be left behind, as the public school curriculums are geared toward the average child.

As in the quote above from Family Christian Academy, father's are ultimately responsible to the Lord for the running of their homes.  Fathers, teach your boys to be contenders of the faith.  Mothers, teach your daughters to be keepers at home.  Parents love your children and set a good, Godly example for them and when they are old they'll not depart from it.
